Permanganate Oxidation of Cyanotoxins and the Impact of Natural Scavengers

Juliana Laszakovits will review the effectiveness of permanganate on specific toxins and her research for validating how to account for permanganate dosing needs. Potassium permanganate is used in drinking water treatment for a variety of reasons. This can include the removal of toxins produced by harmful algal blooms. These toxins are increasingly of concern as more water reservoirs are impacted by harmful algal blooms.
