REACH

REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) is a European Union regulation, adopted to improve the protection of human health and the environment, while enhancing the competitiveness of the EU chemicals industry. It also promotes alternatives to animal testing. To comply, companies must identify and manage risks linked to the substances they manufacture and market in the EU, demonstrate to ECHA how the substance can be safely used, and communicate risk management measures to users. Carus Europe is the lead registrant for all Carus brands of liquid and solid permanganate and the only representative for all Carulite brands in Europe.

Governor’s Sustainability Award

The Governor’s Sustainability Award is given annually to Illinois organizations that demonstrate a commitment to environmental excellence through outstanding and innovative sustainability practices. Carus received the Governor’s Sustainability Award in 2014 for significantly reducing energy use in our manufacturing process. Our dedication to conservation lives on today, with continuous improvements in process and equipment efficiency.

American Chemistry Council Energy Efficiency Exceptional Merit

Carus received the American Chemistry Council’s Responsible Care award for Energy Efficiency four years consecutively, also receiving Exceptional Merit designation two out of the four years. The Responsible Care Energy Efficiency awards program is among ACC’s many ongoing initiatives to improve energy efficiency. Member companies are required to consider operational energy efficiency as well as waste minimization, reuse and recycling when developing their environmental, health, safety and security plans.

Billion Gallon Challenge

Carus has reduced water use in our manufacturing process by over 60 million gallons per year, in partnership with the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center’s One Billion Gallon Water Challenge. This reduction is helping our environment and our community, by recycling water for re-use in our process and easing demands on our local water utilities.

Department of Energy’s “Save Energy Now” LEADER program

As a participant in the Department of Energy’s Save Energy Now LEADER program, Carus committed to reduce the company’s energy consumption by 25% over the course of a decade. Carus honored and exceeded this commitment, reducing energy consumption by 28% in just five years through process innovations and equipment upgrades. The LEADER program is a component of the Save Energy Now initiative, through which companies partner with DOE to conduct energy audits and assessments designed to identify the opportunities for energy and cost savings in the companies’ operations.
