Soil & Water Remediation

With endorsement of the US Commercial Consulate located in Frankfurt, Germany, Carus Corporation will be hosting a short course during the TerraTec exhibition in Leipzig, Germany on 26 January 2011. This short course will provide basic information for the selection and the design of innovative remediation technologies. Workshops have been planned to assist participants in developing remediation scenarios for various types of contaminants. The course will provide field data (i.e., geological cross sections, drilling logs, soil and groundwater contamination results) from real sites and together we will build the site conceptual model and asses remedial alternatives. A treatment approach will be selected and costs will be calculated using different assumptions in order to show how it is possible to drive the assessment/remediation phases to maximize results while reducing costs.

This short course is focused on innovative remediation technologies experiences to treat recalcitrant compounds. Different technologies will be shown to provide a picture of available market alternatives. This workshop has been designed to “practice” with real situations and to understand each technology advantage and limitation.

In particular the following technologies will be considered:

  • In situ chemical oxidation (ISCO) with different oxidants (permanganate, peroxide, persulfate)
  • In situ chemical reduction (ISCR) with zero valent iron and with a new, innovative approach
  • Enhanced ISCO (i.e., surfactant, selective oxidation)
  • Recirculation wells for groundwater treatment, containment and amendments delivery
  • Aerobic biostimulation (for petroleum derived pollutants)
  • Anaerobic biostimulation (reductive dechlorination)

For each technology, case studies from the USA and Europe will be shown including site design and injection methodology.
