Carus Corporation Appoints New Board Member

14 April 2008

LaSalle/Peru, IL – Carus Corporation is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard A. Lorraine to its Board of Directors. Richard has had a long and successful career in the chemical industry, and he currently serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Eastman Chemical Company. Lorraine’s professional experience gives him the expertise needed to deal with the wealth of challenges and opportunities that face a mid-sized chemical manufacturer such as Carus.

Lorraine began his career in 1963 at Westinghouse Electric where he held various financial positions. In 1978 he joined Clark Chemical Company, again holding financial positions. In 1980 Lorraine moved to ITT Corporation as chief financial officer of the company’s Fluid Technology Group, and over the next four years, he rose to the position of chief financial officer of ITT’s Automotive Group. In 1990 he was named president of ITT Automotive Aftermarket Group. In 1995 Lorraine joined Occidental Chemical Corporation, OxyChem, as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Occidental Chemical Corporation is a wholly owned subsidiary of Occidental Petroleum Corporation and is a large chemical manufacturer. In addition to his finance responsibilities, Lorraine also led the purchasing, logistics and e-business functions of the $3 billion chemical company. In addition to his financial strengths, Lorraine has extensive international experience, which will be extremely important to Carus as they expand their global business operations. In his new role as a member of Carus’ board, Lorraine will join other board members in an oversight role for general management of the Company. In that capacity, he will help provide strategic direction, oversee implementation of plans, and monitor performance.

Carus Corporation, founded in LaSalle, IL, in 1915, is a world leader in permanganates, phosphates, and base metal catalysts, which Carus manufactures mainly for environmental applications: to improve the quality of drinking water, to treat municipal and industrial wastewater, in air purification systems, and in the clean up of contaminated sites.
