LaSalle/Peru, IL – Paul Carus, President of Carus Phosphates, will serve as the Chairman of the Chemical Industry Council of Illinois (CICI). CICI represents Illinois’ $29.9 billion chemical industry, the third largest manufacturing sector in Illinois with more than 700 facilities that employ almost 50,000 people. Chemical industry jobs are among the most desirable, with an average annual salary of $73,000 per year. CICI works to educate the public about the business and benefits of chemistry in Illinois. Additionally, CICI has a mission to inspire and encourage students and educators interest in science and chemistry. They award scholarships to students and stipends to teachers to augment their efforts. They also sponsor many functions targeting students including a yearly Career Conference at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, and programs that strive to interest middle school age girls in careers in science by introducing them to women in different fields of science.

Paul Carus received his education at the University of Illinois, graduating with a degree in Chemical Engineering. Prior to Carus Corporation, Paul worked for several years for Cabot Corporation. Since his return to Carus, Paul has held various positions throughout the company (Process Engineer, Shift Supervisor, Maintenance and Engineering Manager, VP of manufacturing, Chief Operating Officer). He holds two patents related to the production of permanganates. Paul is the president of Carus Phosphates, Inc. and an officer of Carus Corporation.
