Carus has successfully partnered with customers in the following applications requiring oxidation chemistry to meet their environmental or processing needs.
For industrial wastewater treatment permanganate application is used to control organic and inorganic contaminants and by-products such phenols and other aromatic hydrocarbons, mercaptans, sulfides, chlorinated hydrocarbons, chelated or free metal ions and numerous other compounds.
Acid mine drainage often requires oxidation of metals such as iron and manganese to meet regulatory requirements for discharge. Use of oxidants such as CARUSOL® will help to quickly and efficiently meet acid mine drainage discharge requirements. The oxidants are often used in combination with lime to create the most cost effective solution.
Toxic, noxious and malodorous gas control can be achieved to meet local, state and federal guidelines for such by-products as hydrogen sulfide and other caustic pollutants or off-gasses.
In crude oil refining permanganate chemistry is successfully applied during plant turnarounds to remove pyrophoric iron sulfide scale, reducing the threat of exothermic reactions and toxic sulfide odor production.
For multilayer printed circuit boards permanganate is applied to de-smear and etch-back the through-holes coated with epoxy.
Carus has also had an extensive history of producing customized organic intermediates via organic oxidation. Carus is continuously innovating in the field of permanganate applications and looking to expand our market platforms. One of our latest applications is for the control of acid mine drainage run-offs by precipitating and removing metals before they can be discharged into the environment. Acid Mine Drainage is considered an environmental hazard all over the world for both active and inactive mines. The incorporation of Carus' permanganate technology for the prevention of Acid Mine Drainage will result in a cleaner environmental profile for acitve mines and better remediation of closed mines.
