LaSalle/Peru, IL – Carus Corporation has been recognized for its 10 years of sponsorship of the Chemical Education Foundation® (CEF). This non-profit organization was created in 1992 to foster a greater understanding of the science of chemistry and the benefits of chemicals. The Chemical Education Foundation is a resource for chemical industry members to provide outreach and product stewardship in communities. The Foundation was established to raise industry, customer, and community awareness about the value of chemicals in everyday lives. Additionally, CEF provides valuable educational tools and programs.

One of the Chemical Education Foundation’s more successful programs is the You Be The Chemist kits. This highly effective program provides teacher’s aids that make chemistry concepts fun and easy for students and educators in grades K-8. The kit includes thirty lesson plans, a teacher’s manual, homework assignments and a resource guide. In addition to the kits, CEF also sponsors the You Be The Chemist challenge. This academic competition for students in grades 5-8 was actually piloted in LaSalle County in 2004 by Carus Corporation and other members of the LaSalle/Peru/Utica Community Advisory Panel including Flint Hills Resources, PQ Corporation, and Air Products and Chemicals.
