LaSalle/Peru, IL
Carus Corporation’s production facility in LaSalle, IL, was recently audited by NSF International. This independent organization is certified by a number of federal agencies including OSHA and ANSI (American National Standards Institute), to inspect facilities and test products that are used to treat drinking water in the U.S. For products to be NSF Certified, a formula must be submitted to NSF along with a list of the suppliers of the raw materials used to produce the products. The products are then tested for contaminants before being certified and listed on the NSF website. Almost all the municipal drinking water treatment plants in the U.S. require products used in their treatment systems to have this certification. One of Carus’ products, CAIROX® potassium permanganate, has the distinction of being the very first product to receive ANSI’s Authorized Registered Formulation (ARF) for certification. Carus now holds over 25 ARFs in our LaSalle facility alone.
The audit included verifying the company’s raw material suppliers, a tour of the production process, inspection for correct labeling, and a review of all customer complaints. The auditor also collected samples to be tested at their certified laboratory in Ann Arbor, MI, to confirm that all the data provided by Carus was accurate. If products do not meet the testing requirements, they no longer carry the NSF certification. Once again, Carus Corporation had a clean audit with no audit findings.
