17 November 2009 - Carus Corporation recently developed a pandemic policy to insure continued product supply to our customers. For decades, Carus has manufactured its products on a continuous, 24/7 basis. If there is any disruption due to availability of regular plant personnel, Carus has trained engineers, supervisors, and laboratory personnel that can operate the plant for as long as necessary. John Bortak, Carus’ Vice President of Operations, states that “unless one of our key raw materials or utilities is affected (which is not likely given the high stocks typically carried), Carus would expect to continue production indefinitely.”

Carus typically carries sufficient inventories of finished products, so supply would not be interrupted to any significant degree to any customer. The only issue would occur if more than half the country’s population were infected by a wide-spread pandemic. At that point, we believe that there would be issues in supply and demand of many other products and services including transportation and delivery, not just Carus products. Such an event would be a national emergency and one that Carus itself could not address on its own. Carus considers such an occurrence highly unlikely.

Carus has adopted a CDC document for general business and work place guidance for the prevention of novel influenza A (H1N1) in workers. This employer guidance is for companies with employees in OSHA’s lower risk (caution) zone, employees who have minimal occupational contact with the general public and other co-workers.
